There is something special about couples who choose to travel for their wedding. Chloe and Aidan came all the way from Texas to get married in the mountains of North Carolina, bringing friends and family from all over the world with them.

Their wedding day at Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy was beautiful, personal, and full of the kind of moments that you cannot plan for.

I had the pleasure of working alongside their coordinator, Ciara from Phazez Events, to photograph their day, and while the weather definitely kept us on our toes, the entire team handled it beautifully.

A Rainy Start to Their Mountain Wedding

The original plan was for an outdoor wedding, but Mother Nature had other plans.

It poured. Buckets.

When I say poured, I mean the kind of rain that makes you wonder if an outdoor ceremony is going to be possible at all. Thankfully, having an amazing planner makes all the difference on a wedding day. Ciara with Phazez Events and I worked together to keep everything moving and make adjustments as needed.

And then, almost like it was planned just for them, the clouds parted right before the ceremony.

The sun came out. Beautiful and golden.

Suddenly, we had a very small window to make the outdoor ceremony happen, and everyone jumped into action. The groomsmen helped us get the chairs set out in a full-on mad dash. At one point, it became less about efficiently moving chairs and more about seeing who could carry the most at once. Naturally, they all started trying to one-up each other.

It was one of those completely unscripted moments that had everyone laughing, and honestly, it was the perfect way to handle a wedding day curveball.

A Mountain Ceremony With the Clouds Parting

Chloe and Aidan were finally able to have the outdoor mountain ceremony they had traveled from Texas to North Carolina for.

The weather had left the mountains covered in mist, creating an incredible backdrop for their ceremony. The landscape felt completely different from the Texas scenery they were used to, and it made their decision to get married in the North Carolina mountains feel even more meaningful.

There were guests who had traveled from all over to celebrate with them, making the day feel like a true gathering of the people who matter most to Chloe and Aidan.

And as a photographer, those are some of my favorite wedding days. The ones where you can feel just how much effort everyone made to be there.

Sunset, Golden Hour and Highland Cows

Once the rain moved through, we were gifted with the most beautiful evening. It was kind of evening every photographer dreams of! The clouds began to break up, the mountains glowed during golden hour, and the sunset was absolutely worth waiting for.

And then there were the Highland cows.

Because apparently a beautiful mountain wedding, misty views, and golden hour were not enough. We also got to incorporate Highland cows into their portraits, which made for some of my favorite images from their entire wedding day.

String Lights, Antique China and an Evening Celebration

The reception was just as beautiful as the landscape surrounding it.

String lights created a warm glow as the evening settled in, while bud vases and beautiful antique china added an intimate, collected feeling to the tables. Every detail felt intentional without taking away from the natural beauty of the mountain setting.

But as beautiful as the details were, the real focus of the reception was the people.

And the dance floor.

Chloe has some seriously impressive dance moves.

The dance floor was energetic basically the entire night, with everyone completely committed to celebrating Chloe and Aidan. There was so much laughter, movement, and excitement that it was impossible not to get caught up in it while photographing.

These are the moments I love most about wedding photography. The perfectly posed portraits are beautiful, but there is something completely different about a photograph of people genuinely having the time of their lives together.

A Private Last Dance and a Sparkler Send Off

After a full day of celebrating, Chloe and Aidan took a moment for themselves with a private last dance.

After the craziness of the dance floor and having so many people around them throughout the day, it was a quiet moment for the two of them to take it all in.

Then it was time for one final celebration.

Their guests gathered outside for a grand sparkler send-off as Chloe and Aidan headed off to begin their honeymoon in Peru.

From Texas to the mountains of North Carolina, through pouring rain, sunshine, mist, golden hour, Highland cows, an unforgettable dance floor, and a sparkler exit, their wedding day was a reminder that sometimes the best wedding stories are the ones you could never have planned.

And Chloe and Aidan's was certainly one I will not forget.
